Help us raise $60,000 before the year-end!
We can lower Cambridge's achievement gap
What puts the "PLUS" in Tutoring Plus?
This year-end, I’m asking you to help us raise $60,000.
When you support Tutoring Plus, you help a local nonprofit provide high-quality, individualized tutoring that helps Cambridge students build confidence and master key academic skills. Tutoring is most powerful when it rests on a foundation of trust, emotional safety, and holistic support for the whole child and their family. Only then does a student feel truly comfortable taking risks, making mistakes, and asking for what they need.
That is where the "PLUS" in “Tutoring Plus” comes in.
The “PLUS” is how we address the real-world factors impacting a young person’s learning and build a complete ecosystem of support around the whole family.
With your support, we weave the "PLUS" into every layer of our work:
- Circle Time: Before tutoring starts, students gather in what we call “Circle Time” to discuss tough topics, build social-emotional skills, and build trust with peers and mentors.
- Student-Led Goal Setting: Over 120 students in our 1:1 Tutoring & Mentoring programs set individual goals and celebrate milestones.
- Family Support: We host workshops and monthly dinners for families as well as provide basic needs so no family navigates school alone.
- Expanded Community Partnerships: We continue to build partnerships with local youth-serving agencies to bring free academic support directly to nearly 200 youth who previously had none.
While private tutoring and educational advocacy in Greater Boston can cost hundreds of dollars an hour, your investment ensures our entire network of tutoring, advocacy, and wrap-around care remains 100% free for families.
As academic disparities in Cambridge public schools continue to widen along racial lines, with the achievement gap in grades 3-8 ELA and Math at 50 points between White and Black students, we know that homework help alone cannot solve systemic disparities.
Statistics can make educational disparities feel insurmountable, but real change always begins on a human scale. At Tutoring Plus, we measure quality by what your support looks like, sounds like, and feels like:
It looks like a room full of students and tutors sharing laughter and pencil marks across a table. It sounds like a student finding the courage to say, "I don’t understand yet," or a parent telling us, "Thank you. I can’t do this by myself." It feels like everyone leaving our space a little brighter than when they arrived.
As we approach the end of the year, I invite you to stand alongside Cambridge youth and grow the PLUS in Tutoring Plus.
Make a year-end gift today to support:
- $100 – you fund the activities students work on to achieve their goals
- $250– you cover two months of 1:1 tutoring, social-emotional enrichment, and wrap-around support for one family.
- $500 – you sustain one of our partnership-based Homework Centers
- $1,000 – you make a lasting impact on a student’s learning journey
Your donation, no matter how big or small, makes an impact. If it’s a meaningful amount to you, it’s meaningful to us.
Supporting our Winter Campaign goal of $60,000 ensures no young person or their family has to navigate their educational journey alone. Thank you for standing with Cambridge’s young learners and ensuring that every child has a community in their corner, week after week.
With gratitude,
Jordan Harvey
